Method
Prepare Glass & Build
- 1
Chill and fill glass
Choose a highball glass (10–12 oz). Add large ice cubes or crushed ice to fill the glass about three-quarters full. If you prefer a colder drink, pre-chill the glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes before building.
- 2
Combine base ingredients
In a mixing glass or shaker, pour 2 oz whiskey (blended or rye), 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and add 2 dashes of aromatic bitters. Add a short ice fill to the mixing glass to chill and gently stir for about 10–15 seconds to dilute and chill the mixture.
- 3
Strain over ice
Strain the chilled whiskey mixture into the prepared highball glass over the ice, leaving room for the soda (about 1/2 to 1 inch of headspace).
- 4
Top with soda
Slowly pour 4 oz chilled club soda or sparkling water down the side of the glass to preserve carbonation and create a gentle stir. Taste and adjust: if you'd like it sweeter, add another 1/4 oz simple syrup; for brighter citrus, add a few drops more lemon juice.
Finish & Garnish
- 5
Add 2 dashes of aromatic bitters on the top of the drink for aroma (optional).

Serve immediately with a straw (if desired) and a long-handled spoon for stirring. Enjoy.
