Frangelico Cocktails

Method

Frangelico Cocktails

  1. 1

    Prepare glass and garnish

Chill a coupe or rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes. If you prefer, lightly rim the edge with a bit of simple syrup or honey and dip into grated dark chocolate or cocoa powder to create a chocolate rim. Set the glass aside.

  2. 2

    Make cream topper

Place 1 tablespoon of heavy cream or half-and-half into a small bowl. Whip lightly with a fork or small whisk until it just thickens and coats the back of a spoon (do not over-whip to stiff peaks). This will be a silky topper for the cocktail.

  3. 3

    Shake the cocktail

Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add 2 tablespoons Frangelico, 1 tablespoon vodka (if using), 2 ounces cooled espresso, and 1/2 teaspoon simple syrup or honey syrup. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until well chilled and slightly frothy.

  4. 4

    Strain and assemble

Strain the cocktail into the chilled prepared glass. Gently spoon the lightly whipped cream over the top so it floats as a thin layer.

  5. 5

    Garnish and serve

Finish with a light dusting of grated dark chocolate or cocoa powder over the cream and float 2–3 toasted hazelnuts on the surface or skewer them on a cocktail pick and rest across the glass. Serve immediately.
