Cocktail

Honey syrup (make ahead)

Method

Honey syrup (make ahead)

  1. 1

    Make honey syrup

Combine 2 tablespoons honey and 2 tablespoons hot water in a small jar or cup. Stir or shake until fully dissolved and slightly cooled. Store refrigerated for up to 2 weeks. Use 0.5 oz of this syrup in the cocktail.

Cocktail Preparation

  1. 2

    Chill glass

Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink to chill it.

  2. 3

    Optional honey rim

If rimming, brush the glass lip lightly with 1 tsp honey, then dip the rim in a thin layer of fine sugar or citrus sugar. Wipe excess and set aside.

  3. 4

    Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add 1.5 oz limoncello, 1 oz vanilla vodka, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz fresh orange juice, 0.5 oz honey syrup, and 0.5 egg white (if using).

  4. 5

Dry shake (if using egg white)

If you used egg white for texture, dry-shake (no ice) vigorously for 15–20 seconds to emulsify and build foam.

  5. 6

    Shake with ice

Add a cup of ice to the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until well chilled (the shaker should frost).

  6. 7

    Strain and serve

Discard ice or water from the chilled glass. Double-strain the cocktail through a fine mesh strainer into the chilled coupe or martini glass to remove ice shards and any egg white solids.

  7. 8

    Garnish

Float a thin orange wheel or a twist of orange zest on top and rest a lemon wheel on the rim. Optionally, spray a small twist of orange peel over the drink to release oils for aroma.

  8. 9

    Serve

Serve immediately while cold and aromatics are fresh.
