Method
Cocktail
- 1
Muddle cucumber
Place 3 peeled cucumber slices into a cocktail shaker. Add the simple syrup and fresh lime juice. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently muddle the cucumber until it releases its juice and the pieces are lightly broken down (about 10–15 seconds). Do not over-mash to avoid too much vegetal bitterness.
- 2
Add spirits and ice
Pour 2.5 oz gin and 0.5 oz dry vermouth into the shaker with the muddled cucumber. Fill the shaker with ice (about 6–8 cubes) until nearly full.
- 3
Shake
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds. The goal is to chill and dilute the drink and to further integrate cucumber flavor.
- 4
Double strain
Strain the cocktail through a fine-mesh strainer (or double strain with the shaker’s strainer and a fine sieve) into a chilled martini or coupe glass to remove cucumber solids and ice shards.
- 5
Garnish and serve
Float a thin cucumber wheel on the surface and/or add a lime twist on the rim. Serve immediately.
Optional Saline
- 6
Make saline (optional)
If using saline to enhance flavor, dissolve a pinch of salt in 1/2 tsp warm water and add it to the shaker along with the spirits before shaking.
