Method
Bread Pudding
- 1
Prepare the Bread
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Tear or cut the stale bread into bite-sized pieces and place them in a large mixing bowl.
- 2
Mix the Wet Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- 3
Combine Mixtures
Pour the wet mixture over the bread pieces. If using raisins, add them now. Gently fold the mixture together until all the bread is soaked.
- 4
Bake
Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Sauce
- 5
Make the Sauce
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the brown sugar and heavy cream, bringing the mixture to a gentle boil.
- 6
Simmer
Allow the sauce to simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently until the sugar has completely dissolved and the sauce is smooth.
- 7
Add Vanilla
Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Set aside to cool slightly.
