Potatoes

Method

Potatoes Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Start by peeling the Russet potatoes and cutting them into evenly sized chunks, about 1 to 2 inches in size.

  2. 2

    Boil Potatoes

Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover them with water. Add 1 tsp of salt to the water. Bring the water to a boil over high heat, then reduce to a simmer and cook for about 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are fork-tender.

  3. 3

    Drain and Mash

Once cooked, drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, ranch seasoning mix, salt, and black pepper. Use a potato masher or a hand mixer to mash everything together until creamy and smooth.

Gravy Preparation

  1. 4

    Melt Butter

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of butter.

  2. 5

    Make Roux

Once the butter is melted and bubbling, add the flour and whisk continuously for about 1-2 minutes to create a roux, until it turns a light golden color.

  3. 6

    Add Broth and Seasoning

Gradually whisk in the chicken or vegetable broth while continuing to whisk to avoid lumps. Add 1 tablespoon of ranch seasoning mix, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for another 3-5 minutes until thickened.
