Sandwich Components

Breading and Frying

Method

Preparing the Tartar Sauce

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, chopped dill pickles, lemon juice, capers, salt, and pepper. Stir until well blended. Cover and refrigerate while you prepare the rest of the sandwich.

Preparing the Cod

  1. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate bowls, place the flour in the first, the egg beaten with milk in the second, and the cornstarch mixed with salt, pepper, and paprika in the third.

  2. 3

    Bread the Cod

Dip each cod fillet first in the flour, shaking off excess, then in the egg mixture, and finally in the cornstarch mixture, pressing gently to adhere the coating.

Frying the Cod

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking.

  2. 5

    Fry the Cod

Carefully add the breaded cod fillets to the hot oil. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried fillets to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Assembling the Sandwich

  1. 6

    Toast the Hoagie Rolls

While the cod is frying, slice the hoagie rolls and toast them lightly on a baking sheet in the oven or on a skillet.

  2. 7

    Build the Sandwich

Spread a generous amount of tartar sauce on the inside of each toasted hoagie roll. Add a layer of lettuce, followed by tomato slices, and finally place the fried cod fillet on top.
