Ingredients for Tortilla Chips
Method
Instructions for Making Tortilla Chips
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of corn masa flour and 1 tsp of salt. Gradually add 1 cup of water while mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it is smooth and pliable.
- 2
Divide the Dough
Divide the dough into 12 equal balls, about the size of a golf ball. Cover the dough balls with a damp cloth to keep them moist.
- 3
Flatten the Dough Balls
Preheat a tortilla press or use a rolling pin to flatten each dough ball between two sheets of plastic wrap or parchment paper to about 1/8 inch thickness.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, heat 4 cups of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Chips
Carefully place the flattened tortillas into the hot oil in batches. Fry each side for about 1-2 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the chips and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- 6
Cool and Serve
Allow the chips to cool completely. Serve with your favorite dips or salsas.
