Method

Steak

  1. 1

    Prep Steaks

Remove the New York strip steaks from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking.

  2. 2

    Season Steaks

Season both sides of the steaks generously with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

  3. 3

    Heat Oil

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.

  4. 4

    Cook Steaks

Add the steaks to the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness.

  5. 5

    Rest Steaks

Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

Rice

  1. 6

    Rinse Rice

Rinse the long grain rice under cold water until the water runs clear.

  2. 7

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, water, and salt.

  3. 8

    Boil Rice

Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.

  4. 9

    Simmer Rice

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.

  5. 10

    Fluff Rice

Remove from heat and let sit covered for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.

Beans

  1. 11

    Prepare Beans

Open the can of black beans and drain excess liquid.

  2. 12

    Heat Beans

In a small saucepan over medium heat, add the black beans, cumin, and garlic powder.

  3. 13

    Cook Beans

Stir and cook for about 5 minutes until heated through.

Mashed Potatoes

  1. 14

    Prep Potatoes

Peel and chop the potatoes into evenly sized chunks.

  2. 15

    Boil Potatoes

Place the chopped potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Add salt.

  3. 16

    Cook Potatoes

Bring to a boil and cook for 15-20 minutes until fork-tender.

  4. 17

    Mash Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, salt, and black pepper.

  5. 18

    Season Mashed Potatoes

Mash until smooth and creamy, adjusting seasoning as needed.

Asparagus

  1. 19

    Prep Asparagus

Trim the tough ends off the fresh asparagus.

  2. 20

    Season Asparagus

In a bowl, toss the asparagus with olive oil, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 21

    Cook Asparagus

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the asparagus.

  4. 22

    Finish Asparagus

Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until tender-crisp.
