Preparing the Fish
- 1
Prepare the Coating
In a shallow bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, and paprika together.
- 2
- 3
Coat the Tilapia
Dip each tilapia fillet first into the egg wash, allowing excess to drip off, then coat it in the flour mixture, pressing gently to adhere. Set aside on a plate.
Frying the Fish
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Tilapia
Carefully place the coated tilapia fillets in the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and place on paper towels to drain.
Assembling the Sandwich
- 6
Prepare the Buns
Toast the hamburger buns lightly in a toaster or on a pan until golden brown.
- 7
Layer the Ingredients
On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by a fried tilapia fillet, a slice of tomato (sliced from the large tomato), and a generous dollop of tartar sauce.
- 8
Finish the Sandwich
Top with the other half of the bun and serve with a side of French fries.
