Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Collard Greens

Wash the collard greens thoroughly to remove any dirt. Remove the tough stems and chop the leaves into bite-sized pieces.

  2. 2

    Chop the Vegetables

Dice the onion and mince the garlic cloves.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Sauté the Aromatics

In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.

  2. 4

    Add the Smoked Turkey

Add the smoked turkey legs to the pot and pour in the chicken broth. Bring the mixture to a boil.

  3. 5

    Cook the Collard Greens

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and add the chopped collard greens. Season with salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and sugar. Cover and simmer for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally until the greens are tender.

  4. 6

    Serve

Once the collard greens are cooked, remove the turkey legs and shred the meat from the bones if desired. Serve the collard greens hot with cornbread on the side and hot sauce for added flavor.
