Pasta and Sauce

Method

Preparing the Pasta and Sauce

  1. 1

    Cook the Rigatoni

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the rigatoni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Sauce

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Preparing the Cheese Mixture

  1. 3

    Mix the Cheese Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, and chopped parsley. Mix until well combined and smooth.

Assembling and Baking

  1. 4

    Combine and Layer

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large baking dish, spread a layer of the tomato sauce on the bottom. Add half of the cooked rigatoni, followed by half of the cheese mixture. Repeat the layers with the remaining rigatoni and cheese mixture. Top with the remaining tomato sauce and sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the top.

  2. 5

    Bake

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

  3. 6

    Serve

Let the baked rigatoni cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with additional chopped parsley if desired.
