Method

Steak Preparation

  1. 1

    Sear the Steak

Season the New York strip steak with salt and black pepper on both sides. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a drizzle of oil. Sear the steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until your desired doneness. Remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.

Garlic Butter Preparation

  1. 2

    Make Garlic Butter

In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic cloves and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Stir in chopped fresh parsley and remove from heat.

Au Jus Preparation

  1. 3

    Prepare Au Jus

In a saucepan, combine red wine, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, chopped onion, and thyme. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Strain if desired.

Sandwich Assembly

  1. 4

    Assemble the Sandwiches

Slice the mini baguettes open. Layer the sliced steak and gruyere cheese inside each baguette. Brush the inside with garlic butter. Place the sandwiches in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is warm.

  2. 5

    Serve with Au Jus

Serve the mini steak sandwiches with a small bowl of the warm red wine au jus for dipping.
