Cocktail

Turbinado Simple Syrup (if making fresh)

Method

Turbinado Simple Syrup (make ahead)

  1. 1

    Make syrup

Combine 1 cup turbinado sugar and 1 cup hot water in a heatproof container. Stir until sugar is fully dissolved. Cool to room temperature, then store sealed in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Use 0.25 oz per cocktail.

Cocktail assembly

  1. 2

Chill: If desired, chill an Old Fashioned (rocks) glass by filling with ice and setting aside while you mix.

  2. 3

Build: In a mixing glass or stirring glass, add 2 oz Angels Envy bourbon, 0.25 oz turbinado simple syrup, 0.25 oz Luxardo (optional for a richer cherry note), 2 dashes cherry bitters and 1 dash orange bitters.

  3. 4

Stir: Add plenty of ice to the mixing glass and stir gently for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 revolutions) until well-chilled and slightly diluted.

  4. 5

Prepare glass: Discard ice from the chilled rocks glass and add a single large clear ice cube (or several large cubes).

  5. 6

Strain: Strain the stirred cocktail into the prepared rocks glass over the large ice cube.

  6. 7

Express & garnish: Take the orange peel and hold it skin-side down above the drink. Gently squeeze and twist to express the oils over the surface, then rub the peel around the glass rim and drop it into the drink as garnish.

  7. 8

Serve: Present immediately. Optionally, add a Luxardo cherry on a pick if you used the liqueur and want extra visual/fruit garnish.
