Muddle and dissolve
In a lowball glass, place the sugar cube and saturate with Angostura bitters. Muddle until the sugar dissolves into a syrup.

Add bourbon or rye whiskey to the glass and stir gently to combine with the bitters-sugar base.

Add a large ice cube and stir until well chilled and slightly diluted, about 20-30 seconds.

Express the oils from the orange peel over the drink by giving it a quick twist, then rim the glass with the peel and drop it into the drink.

Garnish with a Luxardo cherry.
