Falafel Ingredients

Method

Falafel Directions

  1. 1

    Soak the Chickpeas

Place the dried chickpeas in a bowl and cover with water. Soak overnight (or for at least 8 hours) until they are soft.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Mixture

Drain the soaked chickpeas and add them to a food processor along with the parsley, cilantro, onion, garlic, cumin, coriander, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Pulse until the mixture is coarsely ground.

  3. 3

    Add Flour

Transfer the mixture to a bowl and mix in the flour until the mixture holds together. If too wet, add more flour as needed.

  4. 4

    Form the Balls

Using your hands, form the mixture into small balls (about 1-1.5 inches in diameter).

  5. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat oil over medium-high heat until hot (around 350°F or 175°C).

  6. 6

    Fry the Falafel

Carefully drop the falafel balls into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  7. 7

    Drain and Serve

Remove the falafel from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve warm with tahini sauce.
