Fried Pickles
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Battering Mixture
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- 2
Combine Egg and Buttermilk
In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk until well combined.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Batter the Pickles
Dip each dill pickle chip into the egg and buttermilk mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, then coat it in the flour-cornmeal batter. Repeat until all pickle chips are coated.
- 5
Fry the Pickles
Carefully place the battered pickle chips in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried pickles from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with Texas petal sauce.
