1. Prepare the Patties
In a bowl, combine the ground beef, maple syrup, and Montreal steak spice. Mix until just combined, then form into 4 equal patties.
2. Cook the Patties
Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness. Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.
3. Toast the Buns
While the patties are cooking, cut the burger buns in half and toast them on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.
4. Assemble the Burger
Spread mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun. Place a lettuce leaf, a cooked patty with melted cheddar, a slice of tomato, and red onion on top. Add ketchup and mustard to taste, then place the top half of the bun on.
5. Serve
Serve immediately with your favorite sides and enjoy your Canadian burger!
