Pasta

Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Cook Penne Pasta

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add 2 cups of penne pasta and cook according to package directions, usually about 10-12 minutes until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Cook Bowtie Pasta

In the same pot, bring salted water back to a boil and add 2 cups of bowtie pasta. Cook according to package instructions, typically 10-12 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Cooking Proteins

  1. 3

    Cook Italian Sausage

In a skillet over medium heat, brown 1 lb of Italian sausage, breaking it into pieces as it cooks. Cook for about 8-10 minutes until fully cooked. Drain excess fat and set aside.

  2. 4

    Grill Chicken

Season 2 chicken breasts with salt and pepper. Grill on medium heat for about 6-7 minutes per side or until internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C). Slice into strips and set aside.

  3. 5

    Cook Shrimp

In another skillet, heat a bit of oil and add 1 lb of shrimp. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until shrimp are pink and opaque. Remove from heat and set aside.

Preparing Vegetables

  1. 6

    Prepare Roasted Red Peppers

If using jarred roasted red peppers, drain and chop 1 cup. If roasting fresh, roast until charred, peel, and chop.

  2. 7

    Caramelize Onions

In a skillet, add 1 cup of sliced onions with a little oil. Cook on low heat for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally until golden brown.

  3. 8

    Sauté Mushrooms

In the same skillet, add 1 cup of sliced mushrooms. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until tender and browned.

  4. 9

    Prepare Roasted Cherry Tomatoes

If using fresh, roast cherry tomatoes in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 15 minutes until blistered. If using jarred, simply drain.

Making Sauces

  1. 10

    Heat Tomato Sauce

In a saucepan, heat 2 cups of tomato sauce over medium heat until simmering. Stir occasionally.

  2. 11

    Prepare Garlic Cream Sauce

In a separate saucepan, heat 1 cup of garlic cream sauce over low heat until warmed through.

  3. 12

    Prepare Creamy Pesto

In another small saucepan, warm 1 cup of creamy pesto over low heat.

Assembly

  1. 13

    Combine Ingredients

In a large serving bowl, combine cooked penne and bowtie pasta with the cooked Italian sausage, grilled chicken, sautéed shrimp, roasted red peppers, caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, and roasted cherry tomatoes.

  2. 14

    Serve with Sauces

Serve the pasta with tomato sauce, garlic cream sauce, and creamy pesto on the side, allowing guests to choose their preferred sauce.
