Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pickles

Drain the sliced dill pickles well and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually add the buttermilk, whisking until the batter is smooth.

Frying

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or frying pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 4

    Coat the Pickles

Dip each pickle slice into the batter, ensuring it is well coated.

  3. 5

    Fry the Pickles

Carefully place the battered pickles into the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 6

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried pickles with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve warm with ranch dressing on the side.
