Moscow Mule

Method

Moscow Mule

  1. 1

    Prepare mug

Fill a copper mug (or highball glass) about three-quarters full with fresh ice cubes (approximately 1 cup). Using a copper mug helps keep the drink very cold, but any glass will work.

  2. 2

    Add vodka

Pour 2 oz of vodka over the ice.

  3. 3

    Add lime juice

Squeeze fresh lime and add 1/4 oz (about half a small lime) of fresh lime juice into the mug. If measuring tools are not available, squeeze roughly half a lime and strain out seeds.

  4. 4

    Top with ginger beer

Slowly pour 6 oz of chilled ginger beer into the mug to preserve carbonation. Pour gently over the back of a spoon if desired to minimize foam.

  5. 5

    Garnish and serve

Give the drink a gentle stir (one or two turns) to combine vodka, lime juice, and ginger beer without losing too much fizz. Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim or floated on top. Serve immediately.

  6. 6

Optional variations: For a spicier profile, add a thin slice of fresh ginger or a splash (1/4 oz) of lime cordial for more sweetness. To make a batch, scale ingredients maintaining the 1:3 vodka-to-ginger-beer ratio and the 1/8 oz lime juice per ounce of vodka.
