Method
Blackberry Apple Cider Liqueur (make first)
- 1
Combine 1 cup apple cider and 2 tablespoons granulated sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- 2
Stir constantly until the sugar is fully dissolved and the cider is just beginning to steam (do not boil), about 3–4 minutes. Remove from heat.
- 3
Add 3 oz fresh blackberries to the warm cider. Let sit for 2 minutes to soften.
- 4
Transfer the warm cider and blackberries to a blender and blend on high for 60 seconds until fully puréed.
- 5
Strain the purée through a fine-mesh sieve or chinois into a bowl or jar, pressing with the back of a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible and leaving seeds behind.
- 6
Cool the strained liqueur to room temperature, then chill in the refrigerator until ready to use. This yields roughly 4 oz of blackberry apple cider liqueur.
Assemble the Blackberry Mule
- 7
Add 3/4 oz blackberry apple cider liqueur, 1 oz fresh lime juice, and 1 1/2 oz Ketel One vodka into a cocktail shaker.
- 8
Fill the shaker with ice (enough to nearly fill) and shake vigorously for 10 seconds to chill and dilute slightly.
- 9
Double strain the mixture (using the shaker strainer plus a fine mesh strainer) into a tall (Collins) glass filled with fresh ice.
- 10
Top the cocktail with 2 oz Fever-Tree ginger beer, pouring gently to preserve carbonation.
- 11
Give the drink a gentle stir once with a bar spoon (1–2 turns) to integrate the ginger beer without flattening it.
Garnish and Serve
- 12
Skewer or place 1 fresh blackberry on the rim or float it atop the drink.
- 13
Add 1 dried lime wheel to the rim or rest it on top of the ice for aroma and visual appeal.
- 14
Finish with a thin slice of ginger candy on the rim or on a cocktail pick alongside the blackberry.
- 15
Serve immediately while the ginger beer is effervescent.
