Method
Cocktail
- 1
Measure and combine
Add 2 oz Old Forester 1870, 1 oz apple cider, 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice and 1/4 oz pure maple syrup into a mixing glass or cocktail shaker.
- 2
Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker with ice (enough to almost fill). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the exterior of the shaker is very cold and slightly frosted. This chills and lightly dilutes the mixture while integrating the syrup and citrus.
- 3
Prepare serving glass
Fill a highball glass with fresh ice (a cup or a large single clear ice cube).
- 4
Strain and top
Double-strain or fine-strain the shaken mixture into the prepared highball glass over the fresh ice to remove small shards of ice and any pulp. Immediately top with 3 oz ginger beer, pouring gently to preserve carbonation. Give the drink one quick, gentle stir (1–2 turns) to marry the ginger beer with the shaken base.
