Method

Cook the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the boiling water.

  2. 2

    Cook Pasta

Add the pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside.

Prepare the Red Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and chopped onion, and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes

Stir in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Mix well and bring to a simmer.

  3. 6

    Season the Sauce

Add dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 7

    Finish the Sauce

Add the fresh basil and stir well before removing from heat.

Combine and Serve

  1. 8

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained pasta to the red sauce and toss until the pasta is well coated.

  2. 9

    Plate the Dish

Serve the pasta in bowls, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and garnished with fresh basil leaves.
