Prepare the Ingredients
Gather all the ingredients listed above. Rinse the Thai basil leaves under cold water and pat them dry. Cut the lemongrass stalk into 2-inch pieces and smash it lightly with a knife to release its flavor.
Muddle the Basil and Lemongrass
In a cocktail shaker, add the Thai basil leaves and the smashed lemongrass pieces. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently press and twist them together. This will release the aromatic oils from the basil and lemongrass.
Add the Liquids
Pour in the light and dark rum blend, fresh lime juice, orgeat syrup, and allspice dram into the shaker with the muddled herbs.
Shake the Cocktail
Fill the shaker with ice cubes (about 1 cup) and secure the lid. Shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds to chill the mixture and combine all the flavors.
Strain and Serve
Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the cocktail into a chilled cocktail glass. This will help remove any solid bits from the muddled herbs.
Garnish
Garnish the cocktail with a sprig of Thai basil and a lime wheel on the rim of the glass. Serve immediately and enjoy your tropical escape!
