Sambuca Ingredients
Sambuca Preparation
1. Infusing the Anise
In a large pot, combine the anise seeds and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for 30 minutes.
2. Straining the Mixture
After simmering, remove the pot from heat and strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove the anise seeds.
3. Adding Sugar
Return the strained liquid to the pot and add sugar. Stir over low heat until the sugar completely dissolves.
4. Incorporating Alcohol
Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then add the grain alcohol and split vanilla bean. Mix well.
5. Bottling
Pour the sambuca into sterilized bottles. Seal tightly and let it sit for at least 2 weeks in a cool, dark place for the flavors to meld.
6. Serving
Serve chilled or at room temperature, with a piece of star anise as a garnish.
