Cocktail
Method
Cocktail
Prepare
Chill a white wine glass or large coupe in the freezer for 5–10 minutes, or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail.
Build base
In a cocktail shaker, add ice (enough to fill the shaker about two-thirds), 0.5 oz vodka, 0.5 oz elderflower liqueur, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup.
Shake
Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the outside of the shaker is cold and the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted.
Strain
Discard ice or water from the chilled wine glass. Strain the shaken mixture into the chilled glass, leaving room for the wine and soda (about two-thirds full after pouring).
Add wine and soda
Carefully pour 5 oz dry white wine into the glass, then top with 1 oz club soda. Stir gently once with a bar spoon to integrate without flattening the bubbles.
Garnish and serve
Express a lemon twist over the surface to release oils, run it around the rim, and drop it into the drink. Add an optional mint sprig for aroma. Serve immediately.
Notes
Adjust sweetness by increasing or decreasing the simple syrup. Use a light-bodied, crisp Italian white wine for an authentically Italian profile. All ingredients correspond to the ingredient list above.
