Method

Preparing the Steak

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Pat the ribeye steak dry with paper towels. Drizzle olive oil over both sides of the steak. Sprinkle salt, black pepper, and garlic powder evenly on both sides.

  2. 2

    Preheat the Pan

Heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy pan over medium-high heat until hot, about 5 minutes.

  3. 3

    Cook the Steak

Place the seasoned steak in the hot skillet. Cook for 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it, until a golden-brown crust forms. Flip the steak over.

  4. 4

    Add Butter and Herbs

After flipping, add butter and a sprig of fresh rosemary or thyme to the pan. Baste the steak with the melted butter using a spoon, cooking for an additional 4-5 minutes for medium-rare.

  5. 5

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked to your desired doneness, transfer the steak to a plate and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

Making the Mashed Potatoes

  1. 6

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the potatoes and cut them into quarters. Place them in a pot of salted cold water.

  2. 7

    Boil the Potatoes

Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Cook the potatoes until tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  3. 8

    Mash the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, salt, and black pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.
