Classic Margarita
Moscow Mule
Variation: Spicy Margarita
Method
Classic Margarita
- 1
Prepare glass
Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or coupe glass. Dip the rim into a small plate of coarse salt to coat evenly. Set the glass aside.
- 2
Build and shake
Add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 1 oz orange liqueur, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and 8 ice cubes to a cocktail shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold and slightly frosted.
- 3
Moscow Mule
- 4
Chill and prep
If using a copper mug, chill it briefly in the freezer or fill with ice while you assemble the drink. Place 6 fresh ice cubes into the mug or highball glass.
- 5
Build
Pour 2 oz vodka and 0.5 oz fresh lime juice over the ice. Top with 4 oz chilled ginger beer. If using, add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters for extra aromatic complexity.
- 6
Garnish and serve
Gently stir once to combine (one or two turns). Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge and an optional mint sprig. Serve with a short straw.
Variation: Spicy Margarita
- 7
Muddle jalapeño
In a shaker, add 3 jalapeño slices and 0.5 oz agave nectar. Lightly muddle 6–8 times to release the pepper oils without pulverizing. If you want less heat, remove the seeds before slicing and muddling.
- 8
Build and shake
Add 2 oz tequila, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz orange liqueur, and 8 ice cubes to the shaker with the muddled jalapeño. Shake vigorously 12–15 seconds until well chilled.
- 9
Rim and serve
Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass and dip into a mix of coarse salt and chili powder. Strain the margarita into the prepared glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a thin jalapeño slice or lime wheel. Taste and adjust heat by adding more jalapeño next time if desired.
