Bottle Bucket (per bucket, makes 5 buckets)

Method

Bottle Bucket (per bucket, makes 5 buckets)

  1. 1

    Chill and prepare bottles

Place 5 domestic bottles (or small cans) in the refrigerator for at least 60 minutes prior to service. If you cannot pre-chill, submerge bottles in an ice bath for 15–20 minutes until cold.

  2. 2

    Prepare ice

In a large clean bucket or metal tub, add 8 cups of crushed ice and 10 ice cubes. Crushed ice provides maximum chilling surface; the cubes help maintain volume and slow melt.

  3. 3

    Salt rim (optional)

If you want a salted presentation for any bottle/can style that pairs well, moisten the rim of the bucket with a lime wedge and press a 1 tbs ring of coarse sea salt onto the moistened area. This is optional and should be done quickly to avoid excessive melting.

  4. 4

    Assemble bottles in bucket

Nestle all 5 chilled bottles upright into the crushed ice so they are supported and partially submerged. Arrange bottles so labels face outward for presentation. Add the 10 ice cubes around bottles to fill gaps and stabilize them.

  5. 5

    Finish with optional additions

If using, drizzle 30 ml simple syrup evenly over the ice for a lightly sweetened finish (useful if serving bottled malt beverages with citrus mixers). Top with 100 ml club soda per bucket if you want fizz added to the meltwater (divide 500 ml across 5 buckets as needed). Tuck 1–2 lime wedges and 1 mint sprig between bottles as garnish.

  6. 6

    Serve and maintain

Serve each bucket directly to the table. Advise guests to remove bottles and set on table to drink, keeping the bucket nearby to re-chill returned bottles. Replenish crushed ice as needed. Discard melted water and replace ice entirely after approximately 45–60 minutes of service to keep bottles cold and avoid dilution of flavor.
