Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Gather all the ingredients listed above. If using butter, let it soften at room temperature.

  2. 2

    Heat the Sauerkraut

In a small saucepan, heat the sauerkraut over medium heat until warm, about 5 minutes. Drain any excess liquid before assembling the sandwich.

Assembly and Cooking

  1. 3

    Assemble the Sandwich

On one slice of marble rye bread, layer 4 oz of corned beef, followed by 1/2 cup of warmed sauerkraut, and 2 slices of Swiss cheese. Spread 2 tablespoons of Thousand Island dressing on another slice of bread.

  2. 4

    Grill the Sandwich

Heat a skillet over medium heat. If using butter, spread it on the outer sides of both slices of bread. Place the sandwich in the skillet and grill for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

  3. 5

    Serve

Once cooked, remove the sandwich from the skillet and let it cool for a minute. Cut in half and serve with pickles on the side, if desired.
