Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Seafood

Clean and debeard the mussels and clams. Peel and devein the shrimp. Cut the calamari into rings and leave the scallops whole. Cut the chef's catch into bite-sized pieces.

Marinara Sauce

  1. 2

    Cook the Sauce

In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and diced onion, sautéing until fragrant and translucent (about 3-4 minutes).

  2. 3

    Add Tomatoes

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. 4

    Add Fresh Basil

Once the sauce has thickened slightly, stir in the fresh basil, allowing it to wilt in the heat.

Cooking the Seafood

  1. 5

    Combine Seafood and Sauce

Gently add the mussels, clams, shrimp, scallops, calamari, and chef's catch to the marinara sauce. Stir carefully to combine.

  2. 6

    Cook the Seafood

Cover the pot and let it cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until the mussels and clams open and the shrimp turn pink.

Serving

  1. 7

    Garnish and Serve

Ladle the zuppa di pesce into bowls, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve with lemon wedges on the side.
