Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Spaghetti

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Once cooked, drain and set aside, reserving a little pasta water.

Meat Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a large skillet or saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes, or until the vegetables have softened.

  2. 3

    Add Garlic and Meat

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 4

    Incorporate Tomato Ingredients

Mix in the tomato paste and canned tomatoes. Stir well to combine.

  4. 5

    Season the Sauce

Add the dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. If using, pour in the red wine. Allow the sauce to simmer on low heat for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Serving

  1. 6

    Combine and Serve

Once the sauce has thickened, combine it with the cooked spaghetti in the pot. Toss gently to coat the pasta with the sauce. Serve in bowls, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil.
