Sauce and Seasonings

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the ziti pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Sauce

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Then, add the crushed tomatoes and stir well.

  3. 3

    Season the Sauce

Add fresh basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to the sauce. Simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

Assembly

  1. 4

    Combine Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked ziti with the tomato sauce. Crumble in the goat cheese and mix until well incorporated.

  2. 5

    Layer the Ziti

Spread half of the ziti mixture into a greased baking dish. Layer half of the mozzarella cheese on top. Repeat with the remaining ziti and finish with the rest of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Baking

  1. 6

    Bake the Ziti

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

  2. 7

    Serve

Let the baked ziti cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with extra fresh basil if desired.
