Method
Cooking Pasta
- 1
Boil the Fettuccine
In a large pot, bring water to a rolling boil. Add a generous amount of salt to the boiling water.
- 2
Cook the Fettuccine
Add the fettuccine pasta to the boiling water and cook according to the package instructions (usually about 8-10 minutes) until al dente.
- 3
Drain the Pasta
Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander, reserving about 1 cup of the pasta water. Set aside.
Making Alfredo Sauce
- 4
Melt the Butter
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter.
- 5
- 6
Incorporate Heavy Cream
Pour in the heavy cream and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Stir frequently.
- 7
Add Parmesan Cheese
Gradually add the grated Parmesan cheese to the cream mixture, stirring continuously until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
- 8
Season the Sauce
Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water to reach the desired consistency.
Combining Pasta and Sauce
- 9
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained fettuccine pasta to the Alfredo sauce in the skillet and toss to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce.
- 10
Serve
Garnish with chopped parsley and additional Parmesan cheese if desired. Serve immediately.
