For the Mozzarella Sticks

For the Marinara Sauce

Method

Preparing the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Setup

Gather all ingredients and set up a breading station with three bowls: one for flour, one for beaten eggs mixed with milk, and one for breadcrumbs mixed with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

  2. 2

    Bread the Cheese

Take each mozzarella stick and first coat it in flour, shaking off any excess. Then dip it in the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, coat it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure an even coating.

  3. 3

    Chill

Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to help the coating adhere.

Preparing the Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Cook the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.

Frying the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 6

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 7

    Fry the Sticks

Carefully add the chilled mozzarella sticks in batches to the hot oil, frying for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.

  3. 8

    Serve

Serve the hot mozzarella sticks with the marinara sauce for dipping.
