Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pickles

Drain the dill pickle chips and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Add Water

Gradually add the cold water to the dry ingredients, whisking until the batter is smooth and thick. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). You can test if oil is ready by dropping a small amount of batter into the oil; it should sizzle and rise to the surface.

  2. 5

    Batter the Pickles

Dip each pickle chip into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated. Allow excess batter to drip off.

  3. 6

    Fry the Pickles

Carefully place the battered pickle chips into the hot oil in small batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain and Cool

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried pickles from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve with Dipping Sauce

Serve the deep-fried pickles hot with ranch dressing on the side for dipping.
