Garnish / Rim

1

Prepare rim

On a small plate combine coarse sea salt, smoked paprika and ground cayenne. Mix thoroughly so the color is even. Run the lime wedge around the outer rim of a rocks or coupe glass, then dip the rim into the chili-salt mixture to coat. Set glass aside to dry slightly.

Cocktail

2

Add mezcal, reposado tequila, fresh lime juice, blood orange juice, ginger liqueur, orange curaçao and agave syrup into a cocktail shaker.

3

Fill the shaker with ice (enough to chill and dilute properly, about 6–8 large cubes).

4

Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold and the exterior becomes frosty.

5

Double strain the mixture into the prepared rimmed glass over fresh ice (if serving on the rocks) or without ice if serving up in a coupe. Use a fine-mesh strainer in addition to the shaker strainer to remove small ice shards and pulp.

6

Garnish with a blood orange wheel or dehydrated orange slice and a lime wedge. Optionally express an orange peel over the drink to release oils, then discard or tuck behind the garnish.

7

Serve immediately. Recommend tasting for heat balance; if too spicy bring additional agave syrup to the table to sweeten.
