Guava-Blackberry Cocktail

Method

Guava-Blackberry Cocktail

1

Muddle

Place 6–8 fresh blackberries in a cocktail shaker or mixing glass. Add the simple syrup and gently muddle until the berries are broken down and release juices, but avoid pulverizing the seeds too much.

2

Add liquids

Add the guava nectar, white rum, and fresh lime juice to the shaker with the muddled blackberries.

3

Shake

Add a generous handful of ice (about 1 cup) to the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker feels cold and slightly frosty.

4

Fine-strain

Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer (or double strain with a cocktail strainer and small sieve) into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice to catch seeds and large pulp pieces.

5

Top and garnish

If you prefer a lighter, fizzy drink, top with about 1.5 oz club soda. Gently stir once to combine. Garnish with a blackberry, a lime wheel on the rim, and optionally a mint sprig.

6

Serve

Serve immediately while cold. Encourage stirring briefly before drinking if soda was added to reincorporate settled fruit.
