Hot Dog Base & Toppings

Method

Assembly

  1. 1

    Prep workspace

Set out two plates and small bowls for the toppings. Measure and arrange all toppings within easy reach.

  2. 2

Preheat a grill, grill pan, or skillet to medium heat. Lightly toast the two hot dog buns until just golden and slightly crisp.

  3. 3

Cook the two hot dogs on the grill or pan, turning occasionally, until evenly browned and heated through, about 4-6 minutes.

  4. 4

Prepare onions and tomatoes: dice red onions to a total of 1/4 cup (roughly 1/8 cup per dog) and dice tomatoes to a total of 1/2 cup (roughly 1/4 cup per dog).

  5. 5

Drain the sauerkraut and portion to 1/4 cup total (about 1/8 cup per dog).

  6. 6

Open the buns and place a hot dog into each bun.

  7. 7

Spread condiments on the buns: 1 tablespoon ketchup, 1/2 tablespoon mustard, and 1/2 tablespoon mayonnaise per hot dog.

  8. 8

Top each hot dog with 2 dill pickle slices.

  9. 9

Add sauerkraut on top of each hot dog, about 1/8 cup per dog.

  10. 10

Add diced tomatoes on top, about 1/4 cup per dog.

  11. 11

Scatter diced red onions evenly over the toppings, about 1/8 cup per dog.

  12. 12

Finish with sweet relish, 1 tablespoon per hot dog.
