Method
Shake Base
- 1
Prepare strawberries
Rinse the strawberries under cold water, remove the stems, and pat dry. If berries are large, quarter them so they blend evenly. Measure 1 cup packed.
- 2
Sweeten (if needed)
Place the prepared strawberries in a small bowl and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon granulated sugar. Let sit 5 minutes to macerate, which draws out juices and intensifies flavor. If your strawberries are very sweet, you can skip or reduce the sugar.
- 3
Blend the shake
Add the macerated strawberries (including any released juices), 2 cups vanilla ice cream, 1 cup whole milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 4 ice cubes to a blender. Secure the lid and blend on high for 30–45 seconds, or until the mixture is smooth and creamy with no large ice or fruit pieces. If the shake is too thick, add up to 2 tablespoons more milk and blend briefly; if too thin, add a few more tablespoons of ice cream and blend.
- 4
Taste and adjust
Taste the shake and adjust sweetness or vanilla: add up to 1 teaspoon more sugar or an additional 1/2 teaspoon vanilla if desired. Pulse briefly to combine.
- 5
Pour the finished shake into chilled serving glasses, leaving room for garnish if using.
Garnish (optional)
- 6
Top each shake with about 1 tablespoon whipped cream. Drizzle 1/2 teaspoon strawberry syrup over the whipped cream for extra color and flavor.
