Shake Base

Method

Shake Base

  1. 1

    Prepare blender and measure

Place a blender on the counter. Measure out 1 cup whole milk and 2 cups vanilla ice cream and have the cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla extract, and optional coffee ready.

  2. 2

Add ingredients to the blender in this order: milk first, then the ice cream, followed by 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 2 teaspoons cold coffee if using. Adding liquids first helps the blades move smoothly.

  3. 3

Secure the lid and blend on medium-high for 20–30 seconds, or until the mixture is smooth and uniform. If the shake is too thin, add 1–3 ice cubes and pulse 3–4 times until thicker. If it’s too thick, add up to 2 tablespoons milk and blend briefly.

Add-ins & Garnish

  1. 4

Drizzle about 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup inside the serving glass(s) if desired for presentation.

  2. 5

Pour the blended chocolate shake into the prepared glass, leaving a little room at the top for whipped cream.

  3. 6

Top each shake with a generous dollop of whipped cream (about 1/4 cup per serving). Finish with chocolate shavings or sprinkles and an extra drizzle of chocolate syrup if desired.

  4. 7

Serve immediately with a straw and long spoon. Stir before drinking if the chocolate syrup pooled at the bottom.
