Prepare the Ingredients
Chop the ham, onion, and green bell pepper into small, bite-sized pieces.

Beat the Eggs
In a medium bowl, crack the eggs and whisk them together with salt and black pepper until fully combined.

Cook the Vegetables
In a non-stick skillet, heat the olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper, and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until they are softened.

Add the Ham
Add the chopped ham to the skillet and cook for an additional 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Cook the Omelet
Allow the eggs to cook undisturbed for about 2-3 minutes, or until the edges start to set. Using a spatula, carefully fold the omelet in half and let it cook for another minute.

Add the Cheese
Sprinkle the American cheese over one half of the omelet. Allow it to melt for about a minute.

Serve
Carefully slide the omelet onto a plate, folding it over if necessary. Serve hot.
