Method

For the Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Meatballs

Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Bake the Meatballs

Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) and bake the meatballs for 20-25 minutes or until they are browned and cooked through.

For the Tomato Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté the Onion and Garlic

In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté for 5 minutes until translucent. Add minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Stir in crushed canned tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

For the Spaghetti

  1. 6

    Cook the Spaghetti

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 7

    Combine and Serve

Add the baked meatballs to the tomato sauce and simmer for an additional 5 minutes. Serve the meatballs and sauce over the spaghetti, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
