Method

Cooking the Spaghetti

  1. 1

    Boil Water

Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Add Salt

Once the water is boiling, add 1 tsp of salt to the water.

  3. 3

    Cook Spaghetti

Add 200 grams of spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually around 8-10 minutes, until al dente.

  4. 4

    Drain Spaghetti

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.

Making the Tomato Sauce

  1. 5

    Heat Olive Oil

In a large saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 6

    Sauté Onion

Add 1 chopped medium onion to the pan and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.

  3. 7

    Add Garlic

Stir in 3 minced garlic cloves and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  4. 8

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Pour in 400 grams of canned crushed tomatoes, 1 tsp of dried oregano, 1 tsp of dried basil, and 1 tsp of sugar. Stir well to combine.

  5. 9

    Simmer Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Combining and Serving

  1. 10

    Mix Spaghetti and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the tomato sauce and toss to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce.

  2. 11

    Serve

Serve the spaghetti hot, garnished with grated cheese or fresh herbs if desired.
