Method

Meatballs Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Meatball Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, minced garlic, egg, salt, black pepper, and oregano. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Using your hands, shape the mixture into meatballs about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Bake Meatballs

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs for 20-25 minutes, or until they are browned and cooked through.

Tomato Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté Garlic

In a saucepan over medium heat, add olive oil and minced garlic. Sauté until garlic is fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Season

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, salt, black pepper, dried basil, and sugar to the saucepan. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer. Let it cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Garlic Toast Preparation

  1. 6

    Prepare Garlic Butter

In a small bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, and chopped parsley until well combined.

  2. 7

    Toast the Bread

Slice the baguette or Italian bread in half lengthwise. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly on the cut sides. Place under the broiler until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Watch closely to avoid burning.

Assembly

  1. 8

    Combine Meatballs and Sauce

Once the meatballs are cooked, add them to the tomato sauce and let them simmer together for about 5 minutes.

  2. 9

    Serve

To serve, place garlic toast on a plate, top with meatballs and sauce, and sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the top. Optionally, place under the broiler for 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese.
