Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese

Cut the mozzarella cheese into sticks, about 3 inches long and 1 inch wide.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate bowls, place the flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese Sticks

Dredge each mozzarella stick in flour, dip it in the beaten eggs, and finally coat it with the breadcrumb mixture. Repeat for all sticks.

  4. 4

    Chill the Cheese Sticks

Place the breaded cheese sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes. This helps them hold their shape while frying.

  5. 5

    Fry the Cheese Sticks

Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Once hot, fry the cheese sticks in batches for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

For the Homemade Tomato Sauce

  1. 6

    Sauté Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Add the crushed tomatoes, dried basil, salt, and sugar. Stir to combine.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Season with black pepper to taste.
