Meatballs Preparation

Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).

Mix Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined, but do not overmix.

Shape Meatballs
Form the mixture into meatballs, approximately 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake Meatballs
Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through and browned.

Sauté Garlic
Add the minced garlic to the heated oil and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant.

Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

Simmer Sauce
Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the chopped fresh basil towards the end of cooking.

Toast Buns
While the meatballs are baking and the sauce is simmering, slice the sub rolls or hoagie buns and toast them lightly in the oven or on a skillet.

Assemble Sandwiches
Once the meatballs are done, place 2-3 meatballs in each toasted bun. Spoon marinara sauce over the meatballs, and top with shredded mozzarella cheese.

Melt Cheese
If desired, place the assembled sandwiches under the broiler for a couple of minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serve the meatball sandwiches warm, garnished with extra parsley or basil if desired.
