Method
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Sauté the Aromatics
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until it becomes translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
- 2
Brown the Meat
Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
- 3
Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. If using, add the red wine at this stage. Combine all ingredients well.
- 4
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to meld together.
- 5
Adjust Seasoning
Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if necessary. Add more salt or herbs as desired.
- 6
Cool and Store
Once the sauce has thickened and flavors are developed, remove from heat. Allow it to cool, then transfer to a pint jar or container for storage.
