Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut the Potatoes

Peel the russet potatoes and cut them into even-sized chunks (about 1.5 inches). This ensures they cook evenly.

  2. 2

    Boil the Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add 1 tablespoon of salt. Bring to a boil over high heat and then reduce to medium-low. Cover and simmer for about 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are fork-tender.

Mashing

  1. 3

    Drain the Potatoes

Once the potatoes are tender, drain them in a colander and allow to sit for a minute to release excess steam.

  2. 4

    Mash the Potatoes

Return the drained potatoes to the pot. Use a potato masher, ricer, or fork to mash the potatoes to your desired consistency.

  3. 5

Add Butter, Milk, and Sour Cream

While the potatoes are still warm, add 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter, 1 cup of whole milk, and 1 cup of sour cream. Mix until smooth and creamy.

Seasoning

  1. 6

    Season the Mashed Potatoes

Add 1 teaspoon of black pepper and 1 teaspoon of garlic powder to the mashed potatoes. Stir well to combine. Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary.
